Fiona Crombie’s Favourite Things

This December marks 2018’s icy-tongued, The Favourite’s, 5th glorious anniversary…how time flies. We thought it would be fun to track Oscar-nominated production designer, Fiona Crombie – fresh from her stint on Emma Stone starrer Cruella – and ask her about a few of her favourite things.

Favorite part of being a production designer?

That every project is different. Always something new to discover.

Favorite character in The Favorite?

I loved the servants! Mrs. Meg and Sally. They were both so dry.

Favorite monarch?

I was lucky enough to have morning tea with Queen Elizabeth II in Sydney. When she was introduced to me, she shook my hand and said, “What you do is very valid”. So, considering that I have royal validation from Queen Elizabeth, she is my favourite!

Favorite location/set you designed for The Favorite?

I loved Abigail’s bedroom. We scaled it down so it feels slightly undersized with a small

door and low ceiling. We built it in an empty room at Hatfield House, tucked away under the stairs.

Your favourite production designer?

Jack Fisk

Favorite production design?

I did love the look of The Ballad of Buster Scruggs designed by Jess Gonchor.

Favorite film?

Oh, so hard! Off the top of my head: I Am Love, Orlando, The Piano, Dogtooth, The

Master… too many to name.

Favorite book?

The Border Trilogy by Cormac McCarthy.

Favorite color?

Yellow

Favorite super-heroine?

Wonder Woman

Favourite binge-watching guilty pleasure?

Queer Eye!

Favorite shower song?

‘I Dreamed a Dream’ from Les Miserables. I sound amazing in the shower and the

shower only.

Favorite decade?

1950s.

Favorite Monopoly piece?

The shoe

Favorite ice-cream flavor?

Macadamia

Favorite place to hang-out?

At the cinema
